This week, students in all grades had the opportunity to meet with renowned author Sharon Flake, who writes children and young adult literature and has won numerous awards, including the John Steptoe Award for New Talent.
Flake is the author of picture books such as You Make Me Sneeze and the award-winning young adult novel The Skin I'm In. Ms. Flake talked to the students about her process of becoming a writer later in life and the power of loving yourself just the way you are.
Members of our Let's Talk About It Affinity Group also had the opportunity to have lunch with Ms. Flake (shown above), where they engaged in discussions about the content and cultural implications of her books. They were given the chance to ask Ms. Flake questions about her life and share about their own experiences and ideas.
Thank you for visiting Waldron Mercy, Ms. Flake!
