Waldron Mercy Academy is pleased to announce that we have become a member school of the National Junior Honor Society!
8th Grade Religion teacher Mary Fresta, who worked with administration and her fellow teachers to develop this program, said “I wanted to bring the National Junior Honor Society to Waldron Mercy to provide students with an opportunity to develop leadership skills, foster community involvement, and celebrate academic excellence. By establishing this prestigious organization, I aimed to inspire and motivate students to strive for personal and academic growth while giving back to their community.”
The NJHS elevates our school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps our students continue to develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond.
"I am very honored to lead Waldron Mercy Academy's first National Junior Honor Society," said 8th grader Ella C. "It is a wonderful opportunity and I am looking forward to this coming year with much excitement."
Did you know? NJHS chapters operate in all 50 states and schools around the world, engaging and serving more than one million students. Each year, the average NJHS chapter contributes:
650 hours of school/community service
$1,000 in charitable donations
500 pounds of food to local, state, and national causes
375 pints of blood
“We were excited to introduce the National Junior Honor Society to our middle school students this year,” said Head of School Dr. Jacqueline Coccia. “This program recognizes the hard work, dedication, and determination that our inductees demonstrated to reach this important milestone. As they work with their mentors this year and embrace the five pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship, they will continue to enhance their personal growth while making a positive impact in their classrooms and the Waldron Mercy community.”
We were thrilled to induct our inaugural members during a special Community Gathering ceremony, and we look forward to following along as these students are empowered to make a difference at WMA and beyond!
